Crowder Painting - Colorado Springs

Q&A / Interior Painting Questions / When painting with flat paint, how come it dries like I have used multiple finishes?
Established in 1970, Crowder Painting is a locally owned and operated, fully insured family business in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Our philosophy is simple: provide quality service and craftsmanship to Colorado Springs and surrounding community residents.

We are meticulous in our attention to detail and use only the finest products to guarantee that our customers' finish or paint job will last in our harsh high altitude environment.

We give each customer for each job a comprehensive proposal. Then, we work our scheduling to meet their needs, perform all of our work in a professional manner, and inspect the paint job with the customer to ensure that it completely satisfies them.

Crowder Painting's Expertise Delivers On:

Furthermore, we use very specific exterior and interior painting steps to ensure consistency and customer satisfaction.

Our Exterior Painting Steps:

During our initial consultation, we evaluate the customer's home's exterior surface.

  1. An initial consultation and proposal.
  2. Help with choosing the customer's house paint colors.
  3. Preparing the surface(s) for painting.
  4. Doing the job like true professionals.

Our exterior paint jobs last eight to 10 years before a re-painting is needed.

We also ask the customer some important questions:

  • When was your home last painted?
  • Will you be doing any of the work yourself?
  • Have you started considering paint colors?
  • Do you have specific product or manufacturer preferences?

Three paint color samples are included with every exterior painting proposal. This is also inclusive of any mixture of the main body color, a trim color, and an accent color.

We understand the vital importance of preparing all surfaces for an exterior painting job. This is very time-consuming, but it's necessary to get the work done right.

To get the necessary clean start, Crowder Painting uses a special technique to inject environmentally friendly chemicals into our pressure washer's stream so that a customer's home exterior is not damaged by the initial cleaning process. All loose paint is removed using wire brushing, hand scraping, or powder sanding, typically in combination.

Next comes our meticulous approach to priming:

  • All exposed or raw wood is primed with an oil base wood primer.
  • Brick or stucco gets 100% acrylic masonry primer. Cement block or cinder block gets primed with acrylic block fill primers.

Each area of a customer's home is evaluated for compatibility with the new paint. An appropriate primer is used if necessary, and this is typically an oil base primer.

We take other careful preparation measures, too. Then, when we do the painting, most of the time two coats of paint are applied; we give substantial dry time between each coat.

Our Interior Paintintg Steps:

When it comes to interior painting, we take a similarly meticulous approach. We ask you if you've started looking at colors or sheens, and if other tradesman will be involved with your project. The three paint color choices are applied to the home's wall, ceiling, and adjacent trim.

All or as many items as possible are removed from the area in question. We move any and all furnishings to the center of the room and cover them with canvas drop cloths or light weight plastic, and the area's floor is protected with butyl-backed canvas drop cloths. We remove all of the wall hangings and any anchors that aren't needed.

We remove all switch plates and outlet covers, and all lights and other attached items are either removed or loosened depending on their design. This enables us to paint walls and ceilings thoroughly and give a customer's home interior the most professional look.

We often find home interiors needing drywall repair and caulking, and before we paint an area we take care of any of this, too.

When we paint the interior, we usually apply two coats as we do with exterior painting, and use special paint conditioners rather than water or mineral spirits, so that proper film thickness and lasting quality are assured.
